Swim Meet 101
RSVP for Each Meet. We hope your swimmer will participate in all 5 meets; however, we understand if that is not possible. Parents MUST RSVP to indicate if your swimmer is OR is not swimming for each meet. If you do not RSVP your swimmer will not be placed in events for the following meet. The deadline to RSVP for a specific meet is usually two days prior to the meet date. The coaches need this time to create each swim meet's lineup in coordination with the other team's coaches. The line up is very difficult to change once it is created.
Parking. Parking at most neighborhood pools is limited. Please follow all parking signs and be considerate of all the neighbors. Do not block driveways, park in crosswalks, intersections, or near fire hydrants.
Start Time. All meets begin at 6:00pm. Home team warm up is from 5:00-5:25pm and the away team warm up is from 5:30-5:55pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the warm up start time. Swimmers and volunteers are asked to check in with the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as you arrive.
Volunteers. Save time and sign up for a voluteer assignment and shift when you register your swimmer. You can see your assignments in the Swimtopia app. Again, all volunteers should check with with the Volunteer Coordinator upon arrival. The Cobb County Summer League referee will hold an on-deck meetings at approximately 5:30pm. All timers, coordinators, coaches, place judges, announcers, and starters are expected to attend.
Seating. This varies with the different pools. Please feel free to bring folding chairs, blankets, etc and be flexible. The teams are usually together on each side of the pool, but it can vary a little.
Restricted Areas. Please make sure your swimmers stay in the pool area and do not wander off - especially to playgrounds, tennis courts, etc.
Home Meet Concessions. We will have a full concession stand available! A list of available food items can be found here. Cash and Venmo accepted. Please bring small bills!
What to Bring. Your team t-shirt and swimsuit, cap, goggles (an extra pair of goggles is a good idea!), 2-3 towels, warm clothes, snacks and drinks in a cooler, printed heat sheet, Sharpie, folding camp chairs, cash (small bills) for concessions, and sunscreen. Make sure all items are well labeled with your child's name.
What NOT to Bring. Alcohol (can get us fined from the league and result in a forfeit of meet), tobacco, speakers, anything valuable, and suits or caps with a high school or USA Swimming (year round) team logo are not allowed.
Heat Sheet. (Pro Tip: Download the Swimtopia app!) Heat sheets are available to parents on the day of the meet. If you want a paper copy of the heat sheet, you must print your own heat sheet. There are no extras at the meet and none for sale. Please be aware that the heat sheet is subject to change up until the time of the meet.
Marking Your Swimmer. Ensure your swimmer has sunscreen on and is marked up with his/her event information on their arm and their name on their back shoulder!
Label your swimmers with a black sharpie with their race details on their forearm:
Event #, Heat #, Lane # and Stroke/Relay Position
For relays, add a column for position on team, ie. 1,2,3,4
...Most importantly HAVE FUN and ENJOY the day! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
